Laz Women’s Choir

About the Choir: The Laz Women’s Choir has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the Laz Rural Development Association from Jablaniška dolina, which lies partly in the municipality of Litija and partly in Šmartne pri Litija, where the singers are also from. 25 singers between the ages of 40 and 75 sing in the choir under the direction of class teacher Mance Vidic. Mateja Medvešek took over the chairmanship of ŽPZ Laz in the 2020/21 season and successfully performs this function.
The choir’s program is arrangements of folk songs and polyphonic arrangements for women’s choirs, some also in foreign languages. For special occasions, the choir is happy to sing arrangements of evergreen songs, sometimes with instrumental accompaniment. The complexity of performing the quality of singing increases from performance to performance, which is what the choir director and the singer strive for.
From the first songs to today, when there are more than 50 songs and around 15 performances in each season in the choir folders, the repertoire expands and enriches from season to season. The choir performs mainly in its home environment, at events in Jablaniška dolina, Litija, Šmartne pri Litija and the surrounding area, and thus contributes to the preservation of the singing tradition and to the enrichment of social life. Quite a few times, he took the Slovenian song across the borders of Slovenia.
The choir’s activities consist of regular singing rehearsals and performances, singing weekends, birthday celebrations, a window to the elderly residents of the Jablaniška Valley, preparation of the annual program, involvement in other activities of the association and the community to which the singers belong.
On the occasion of the fifth anniversary, the singers wrote their story in the brochure ‘Our first five years’, which you can browse here. In the 2021/2022 season, however, they are slowly preparing to mark the tenth anniversary of the operation of ŽPZ LAZ.
About the choirmaster:

Manca Vidic, a classroom teacher, has been learning music since she was a child. She started attending music school at the age of six, where she first learned to play the recorder, and then replaced playing the piano, with which she also completed a junior music school in Litija. In addition, since entering elementary school, she has been singing in children’s choirs, which were later replaced by youth and then adult choirs. So far, she has sung in the Mixed Choir of the Litija High School, the Cum Anima Mixed Choir, the Choir of St. Nikolaja and the Čarnica Women’s Chamber Choir, and she also participated in other various ensembles on a project basis. In addition to choral singing, she also attended solo singing at the OE of the lower music school KGBL Ljubljana under the mentorship of prof. Edie Garčevič Koželj. For several years, she led the Cum Anima mixed choir, and in 2016 she also took over the management of ŽPZ Laz. Her career path is also connected with choral singing, as she also leads the elementary school children’s choir. He improves his choir knowledge at various trainings and by accomplishing other choirs.
