We are the Laz Women’s Choir, which has been working continuously since 2012 under the auspices of the Society for Rural Development Laz. But as the performance approached, we collected ideas and decided on the name: Laz Women’s Choir. 25 women who come from the municipalities of Šmartno pri Litija and Litija sing in the choir led by Manca Vidic. The choir’s program consists of various compositions for female ensembles – from folk covers to artistic songs, some of them also in foreign languages, which are sometimes enriched with instrumental accompaniment. We strive to increase the quality of singing all the time, which is also helped by education – singing weekends, which we organize once a year.
Regular weekly activity, promoting healthy friendships and team spirit are invaluable for quality life in the local community. We express our special attitude towards elderly locals and those often lonely in homes for the elderly with the windows on high anniversaries and annual performances in homes for the elderly. At the performances, we also give the opportunity to young musicians and coordinators of the program.
We have also toured abroad quite a few times – the Czech Republic, Hungary and Italy. Last October, the 7th meeting of the Moravian and Slovenian choirs 2021 in the Czech Republic was organized as part of the project of the Office for Slovenes around the world. Unfortunately, we were forced to cancel participation due to an epidemiological situation. The Slovenian – Czech concert will be organized by ŽPZ Laz this year on October 28 at the Cultural Center in Šmartne pri Litija, where we will host Czech choirs.
This year we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the choir, which we will mark with a solo concert and accompany it with a video that will show our path so far.
