From September 21 to 23, 2018, 56 of us went to Brno for a ‘city meeting’. The project ‘Cultural heritage of the EU unites us’ was registered and led by the LAZ association, the partner is the Kahan microregion from the Czech Republic, to which smaller municipalities near Brno are connected. The meeting brought together people from both countries with the aim of thinking together about the future and current challenges of the EU and exchanging good practices in the preservation of cultural heritage. This area was also once engaged in mining, but today they are thinking about using abandoned mines for educational and tourist purposes, just like here with the Sitarjevec mine. geology, which is of interest to us mainly because of our collection of pebbles from the Sava River, was one of the topics for future joint projects with Czech partners.
These days, the Babylon Fest Brno minority festival took place in Brno. It is a great honor for us that our women’s choir represented Slovenia and brightened the day of the Slovenian minority living in the Czech Republic with two performances.

Our Slovenian stand with Carniolan sausage, Jablanški štrukeljci, krhlji, apples, etc. also attracted great interest… European families.

We think it is important to include young people in projects. They did well, connected with high school students in a flag near Brno and together recorded a video about the event.
Above all, the participants of the meeting had a good time. From the collected impressions, we understand the desire for even more such opportunities to socialize with other nations in Europe.
By the way, we also visited Vienna, and used the long drive to sing with a tireless young accordionist.
