In the Oglarska dežela in Dola near Litija, today it is possible to get acquainted with one of the almost missing old crafts – of charcoal making, which co-shapes the traditional event under the title ‘Oglarska dežela 2017’, which took place at and next to the sports field in Dola pri Litija. This year, the program was upgraded with culinary content. The organizers, KS Dole and active associations from Oglarska dežela, invited non-governmental organizations and individuals who competed in the preparation of a charcoal brunch.

We also responded to the invitation in the LAZ association. The three-member team had already prepared properly in advance. At the event itself, eight teams from the surrounding area competed against each other. Our representatives prepared rabbit skewers with a vegetable side dish for the charcoal snack. Their story was how the charcoal burners set a trap for rabbits during work, which catch them and then roast them by the fire. Vegetables are picked along the way in their gardens and fields.

The three-member committee evaluated the method of preparation of the fireplace, pre-preparation of food and the arrangement of the workplace, the originality of the product, the orderliness of the team, the overall impression, example and taste of the dishes, and the speed and sale of prepared food. The team of the LAZ association performed excellently and presented itself. In the association, we are proud of our members.

In the end, both the organizers and the other participants promised themselves that they would continue the culinary story of the Oglarska dežela next year as well.
