Members of the Society of Geology Students visited the permanent collection of pebbles in Breg pri Litija, July 11, 2016

As part of the geological camp, members of the association of students of &nbs;geology visited the permanent collection of Sava pebbles in Breg pri Litija. In the introduction, they were greeted by the president of the LAZ association, Mojca Hauptman, and presented to them the story of the creation of the collection. The LAZ association is the operator of the collection. The representative of the association presented them with the pulse of life along the river Sava then and now and se  connected the tourist offer of the Jablaniška dolina, which of course also includes a collection of pebbles.

The students watched the educational film The Wonderful World of Sava Pebbles, which was created when the collection was established. In the following, as many as two of the three authors of the collection led them through the presentation of exhibition exhibits, namely dr. Uroš Herlec and Mirko Dolinšek. Dr. Herlec emphasized that the original setting of the permanent collection of Sava pebbles was mainly intended for amateur stone collectors (children and adults), who want to compare their specimens with already collected and named stones and in this way define the type of stone, the period of creation, etc. Both the authors of the collection and the LAZ association want schools to take advantage of the opportunity and bring their pupils, pupils and students on a tour. A similar collection is also being created from Drava pebbles, part of which will also take its place on Breg pri Litija.

After visiting the collection of Sava pebbles, the team continued to explore the underground of the Lithuanian ore field. They went to the abandoned Sitarjevec mine with a caver and a great connoisseur of the underground world, Mr. Davorin Preinsinger, who took geology students to the land of ‘Permandelecs’ through the main invasion of the Sitarjevci mine. They walked along the vapnik only about 60 m, because the pigeon is not safe. Entry to an abandoned mine is strictly prohibited without professional guidance.

On a hot July day, the cold coming from the trench was a real relief. For young geologists, exploring the Lithuanian hills area can be a big challenge!
