Elementary school students in the permanent collection of Sava pebbles on 26. 10. 2017

On Thursday, October 26, 2017, we had a visit from two ninth-grade groups from Šmartno Elementary School at the fire station in Breg pri Litija, who came for a guided tour of the permanent collection of Sava pebbles.

Satisfied ninth graders

In the introduction, we presented them with the sights of the Jablaniška Valley and the activities of our association. This was followed by a presentation of the collection of Sava pebbles, then together we watched the film The Wonderful World of Sava Pebbles, which is about the creation of the collection of Sava pebbles. At the end, we looked at the aforementioned collection together.

The Sava River is 940 km long, and it is precisely in the area of the municipality of Litija that it makes the largest meanders on its way, where the water speed decreases and therefore the river builds the largest gravel pits here. This is also the reason for setting up a permanent exhibition of Sava pebbles on Breg near Litija, which is a unique collection in the world. The exhibited pebbles are collected from the entire Sava basin, namely at the gravels from Ljubljanica and Sava to Litija.

For most random visitors to the gravel, pebbles can be aesthetically interesting because of their colors, patterns or shapes. The collection of pebbles can attract the attention of young people, students and adult nature lovers, as it does not require prior knowledge.
